How to Keep Pests Out of Your House This Summer
During summer people tend to spend more time outside, cooking, swimming, relaxing, etc. But, during the summer insects and pests also become more active. Here at Bay Area Wildlife, we’ve been providing our pest control and dead animal removal services to Ocean City and other surrounding Maryland areas for years and wanted to take some time today to give you a few tips on how to keep bugs out of your house this summer.
1. Sprinkle Some Coffee Grounds Around Your Doors and Windows
This may sound like an old wives’ trick, but we’ve actually found this method quite effective. Ants specifically do not like the scent of coffee grounds, so simply laying some coffee grounds by your doorways and windows may be enough to dissuade any local ant colonies from venturing into your home.
2. Clean Your Pantry and Cabinets with White Vinegar
Have you been having issues with moths in your pantry or cabinet? If so, then you may consider getting some white vinegar. Wiping white vinegar on your pantry items will help to ward off moths. Once you’ve rubbed the vinegar on everything and it’s dried, place a few bay leaves in your cabinet or pantry. Completing both of these tasks should be enough to keep moths out of your food.
3. Clean Up Any Food You Have Lying Around
Typically, when insects come into someone’s home its because they’re looking for food. You want to make it as difficult as possible for them to find your food. If you have any food sitting out around your house, secure it. And if you have any food sitting outside, even pet food or things like bird seed, you should secure it in a shed or far from your home.
